Scholastics Research Project

Your next assignment will be to do something inspired from the Scholastics Art Competition. To do this, you will need to go to their website.
http://www.artandwriting.org/
Once you are here, click the 'Exhibitions' tab, then the 'Gallery' tab. Here, you will find a large selection of Scholastic award winners.

These are all high school submissions. You will need to:
A: Find a piece which inspires you stylistically, compositionally, etc.
B: Create a plan for a project based off of this piece. Obviously, this will turn into a project, so be sure to think about media, size, etc.

In order to get the image off the web, you will probably need to take a screen shot. Google how to do this based off your operating system. (Windows XP, Vista, 7, Mac OS Leopard, etc.) You can also download image grabbing apps/add ons off Google or Firefox. Pixlr Grabber is a good one for Firefox.

Google Art Project

Here is an assignment Huffman and I are going to try. Since we cannot take you to a museum..... we are bring some museums to you.
  1.  Go to: http://www.googleartproject.com/
  2.  Explore the museums. Take the virtual tour or slide through the works available to you.
  3.  Pick one particular work of art that stands out to you. Then:
  • Identify different styles used for artwork, including non-traditional artistic styles
  • Use the search engines on the Internet to research an artist
  • Use your sketchbook to assemble a short biography and a collection of his work. Include inspirations and contemporaries of the artist(be creative:))
  • Be ready to present to class this artist and artist's use of techniques in artwork and meaning behind the work. And how you will incorporate something from this artist in your style.

GIMP

This year we will be switching over to the use of GIMP.  A very versatile program that will allow for students to do a variety of different computer graphic projects.  The best thing is it is free to download. Students can download the program at home for use at their convenience.
Follow the link below to get your copy:)
gimp.org

You will also need to grab a couple more items:
Gimp Paint Studio - http://code.google.com/p/gps-gimp-paint-studio/
Gimp Layers(script fu) - http://registry.gimp.org/node/186

If you have trouble installing these items you can Google the directions or ask us to help you.

These items will allow GIMP to run like Photoshop and Painter combined.  Once you get used to the program you will find it amazing!
